Believe it or not but a convention is what made me fall in love with photography again.
It was a Supernatural (yes the TV show) convention in Chicago in 2010.
Kind of like ComicCon but only for the stars of the show Supernatural.
I had gone with a friend and instantly fallen in love with the atmosphere and excitement of the fans as well as the stars. I have made some truly wonderful and very talented friends from around the world. Back then I just had a point and shoot camera and the pictures turned out okay, but I strived for more. So as the years have gone by I've improved significantly through practice and patience. I am also more crticial of my work than others but then again as an artist, I believe we are always more harsh when viewing our own work; believing it to not be good enough. I continue to attend and shoot, striving to better my skills.
Billy Moran and Stephen Norton of Louden Swain
One of my other loves is music and going to concerts; large concerts with thousands of fans in attendance with the awesome crowd vibes are wonderful but my favorites are the more intimate venues. Where it is just the musician and anywhere from 50 to maybe 500 fans. I actually discovered the Indie Rock band Louden Swain through my attendance at the Supernatural conventions because the lead singer plays a character on the show and him and his band plays during the convention the whole weekend but they really shine on Saturday nights during the Saturday Night Special. The guys are really awesome and so humble of the support of their fans. So if you get a chance check out their music at http://www.loudenswain.com/
Another one of my favorite local places here in town to listen to live music is The Rumba Cafe, it is a small initimate little place. I have listened to a few musicians here.
Kyle Cook, of Matchbox 20 fame as their lead guitarist and song writer. This past spring I went and saw him and his new group, Rivers and Rust and it was awesome. Their music has a bluesy country feel that I love and they are wonderful live. I am hoping they come back to Columbus this next year.
